The art of perfume
PERFUME, A FABULOUS, MAGICAL AND MYSTERIOUS WORD WHICH LIGHTS UP OUR IMAGINATION AND PUNCTUATES THE RHYTHM OF OUR LIVES.
Scents were used as early as 20,000 years before Christ; Persians and Chinese actually used them for mystic and religious purposes.
The transition from sacred to everyday use happened in Egypt; perfume was used for numerous rites but also by Egyptian women who applied it to their bodies. This example was followed in ancient Rome and Greece where it was used as a scent and also for its medicinal properties.
The first perfume distillery was set up in France, in à Grasse, under the patronage of Catherine de Médicis.
From now on, perfume reigns supreme.
At the time of the industrial revolution, science made a giant leap. The evolution of chemistry and organic chemistry brought new techniques, particularly extraction which helped the modern perfume industry progress and reach the degree of complexity and sensitivity we know today..
